NASA has discovered a star which has three planets that are larger than the size of Earth. The discovery has been made by NASA's Kepler space telescope. This was stated in a paper submitted to the Astrophysical Journal.
The star, which has been named EPIC 201367065, is around half the size and mass of our sun. The star is situated at a distance of a 150 light years away from the sun.
According to Ian Crossfield, a University of Arizona astronomer who led the study, "A thin atmosphere made of nitrogen and oxygen has allowed life to thrive on Earth. But nature is full of surprises. Many exoplanets discovered by the Kepler mission are enveloped by thick, hydrogen-rich atmospheres that are probably incompatible with life as we know it."
Graduate student of University of California Berkeley, Erik Petigura said, "Most planets we have found to date are scorched. This system is the closest star with lukewarm transiting planets."
After this, there will be observations made with other telescopes, such as the Hubble Space Telescope.
